What’s the cause?
Agropur Ingredient’s employees choose to donate to Freedom Honor Flight; which is an Honor Flight hub based out of La Crosse, WI. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. War veterans are transported to Washington, D.C. to stand before their memorials. The highest priority for these flights is given to senior veterans – many of whom are WWII survivors while others may be terminally ill. There are a total of 130 Honor Flight Hubs which have flown 159,703 veterans since 2005.
The Honor Flight Network program was initiated by Earl Morse, a physician assistant and Retired Air Force Captain who was inspired to help veterans make the journey when he realized visiting the WWII Memorial was physically and financially out of reach for many than the memorial was meant to honor.
How does it help?
There are currently 21,032 veterans waiting for their honor flight. 20% are from WWII, 43% are from Korea, and 36% are from Vietnam. It is expected that in 5 to 7 years, many WWII veterans will no longer be with us. The organizers of this event propose that it is an opportunity to rewrite a chapter in these veteran’s lives, a chance to give them the honor and respect they didn’t receive when they returned home. This cause receives no government funding and is supported solely by donations and volunteers. La Crosse Freedom Honor Flight has no paid staff and accomplishes its goals based on the generosity of the volunteers and community that support it.
